After sitting out six races due to a snowboarding injury in Colorado, NASCAR’s most popular driver Chase Elliott will return to competition at Martinsville Speedway.
The Georgia native will be stepping back into the seat of the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy at the site of his walk off win to make it to the 2020 Championship race, replacing Josh Berry who scored a career-best 2nd place two weeks ago at Richmond Raceway.
NASCAR and Hendrick Motorsports announced that Elliott has received a championship waiver, allowing him to run for the championship should he score a win in the upcoming 18 rounds of the season.
In his two starts this year, the 2020 Champ scored a 38th place finish in the Great American Race and a 2nd place to Kyle Busch in California. Chase currently sits at 34th in the points standings.
