Charbroil 300: Ross Chastain Wins a Rain-Shortened affair in Charlotte

Ross Chastain won the Charbroil 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway after the race was called for rain in the area.

His first O’Reilly Series win since 2019, Chastain’s win came after the race was halted following the conclusion of the second stage. An additional four-hour delay had interrupted the race’s early laps.

Once the race commenced again, Chastain began a dogfight with pole sitter Justin Allgaier and JRM’s Connor Zilisch.

On lap 73, the field slid through oil in the first corner, deposited by Dawson Cram’s #35. Chastain survived the skid, but Allgaier wasn’t so lucky. The series points leader finished 29th after making several trips to pit lane for repairs.

In an unconscionable difficult week for Richard Childress Racing, the team’s cars came home with a respectable 2-3 finish.

William Sawalich came in fourth and Corey Day rounded out the top five.

The O’Reilly Auto Parts series rolls into Nashville SuperSpeedway on Saturday, May 30th.
