All active Hendrick drivers and Kaulig Racing’s Justin Haley have received massive penalties for altering factory spec parts.
Prior to the NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix last weekend, NASCAR officials confiscated hood louvers from all Hendrick cars, as well as the #31 of Justin Haley. Many speculated about what penalties would come from this.
Well, the casualty count has been released and it isn’t pretty. All Hendrick cars (save for Elliott and Berry) alongside the #31 of Haley have been stripped of 100 driver and owner points and 10 playoff points, along with all crew chiefs receiving 4 race suspensions and fines of $100k each. At a combined 300 driver and owner points, 30 playoff points and $400k for Hendrick, it is the largest combined penalty that has ever been dealt out to a single organization.
This penalty drops points leader Alex Bowman from 1st to 23rd, 4th place William Byron drops down to 29th, 5th place Kyle Larson down to 32nd in points and 24th place Justin Haley sits dead last on -40 points.
All penalties are subject to appeal however.
