William Sawalich, driving the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18, won his first career national series race at Rockingham Speedway, leading the final 79 laps of the race.
While it’s Sawalich who will walk away with a one in the win column, Hendrick’s Corey Day dominated for most of the race.
Day won the pole and swept both stages for a grand total of 118 laps. A slow pitstop at the end of stage two put Day back in eighth place and a stop under caution on lap 166 resulted in loose lug nuts on the No. 17 and a secondary pit stop was made to ensure all tires were properly secured. Day finished 10th.
Brandon Jones claimed the runner-up spot with points leader Justin Allgaier in third and Rajah Caruth in fourth, qualifying themselves for the Dash 4 Cash at Bristol and the $100,000 prize that’ll come with it.
Internet sensation Garrett Mitchell (A.K.A Cleetus McFarland as he is significantly more well-known) made his debut in this race for Richard Childress Racing, finishing in 32nd after surviving a lap 206 spin.
