HE’S DONE IT: Sheldon Creed finally scores his maiden O’Reilly series win

The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series’ perennial bridesmaid Sheldon Creed finally scored his first career win at EchoPark Speedway, after a series record 15 runner-ups.

Going into the final corner on the final lap, Creed sat 3rd behind Austin Hill and Ross Chastain. Hill moved his No. 21 down the track to block Chastain’s No. 32, which sent Hill sideways into the third corner, allowing Creed to sweep by on the top. Hill recovered his car to a 12th place finish, with Chastain in 6th.

The Richard Childress Racing duo of Hill and Jesse Love controlled the majority of the race, with Love leading the most laps and taking the win in the first stage, and Hill driving through the pack to the lead in the first handful of laps.

Rajah Caruth piloted his JR Motorsports No. 88 to his first career stage win in the second stage, and an 8th place finish. The remaining three JR Motorsports cars were all involved in accidents in the last 60 laps.

Polesitter Sam Mayer led the second-most laps of the race behind Love, and recovered to a 7th place after taking the lucky-dog on the second-to-last caution.

Austin Hill holds the season points lead, with Rajah Caruth in second and Sheldon Creed in third.

The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series rolls into Austin for the Circuit of the Americas next weekend.
